GCT Deltaport Expansion Berth Four (DP4) Project Update
Further to our last communication in June, GCT writes to update you on the next steps with respect to the Deltaport Expansion Berth Four (DP4) project.
Regulators have granted a 24-month extension.
GCT is pleased to convey that on July 20th the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (IAAC) and British Columbia Environmental Assessment office (BCEAO) have granted an extension to the three-year limit for GCT Canada Limited Partnership to provide the Impact Statement and the required information or studies set out in the notice of commencement of the impact assessment for the GCT Deltaport Expansion Berth Four Project.
In their response, the Regulators outline the reasons for this decision are as follows:
- GCT Canada Limited Partnership (GCT) has demonstrated progress in the development of the required information or studies and have a work plan to complete all work;
- GCT has engaged collaboratively with the Agency and the British Columbia Environmental Assessment Office (EAO), federal authorities, and other parties throughout the assessment to date;
- The extended time limit would allow consideration of ongoing initiatives in the Project region and will help manage consultation fatigue among the Indigenous nations.
GCT thanks the IAAC, and the EAO, for their consideration and ongoing collaboration.
GCT remains dedicated to advancing meaningful relationships with Indigenous nations and that includes reviewing DP4 in a responsible and efficient manner. We are cognizant of the importance of ensuring that an assessment is robust, comprehensive, and responsive to changing conditions and developments.
GCT will continue its practice of providing project updates during the extension period.
