GCT Deltaport Berth 4 Expansion Project to proceed to the next phase of an Environmental Assessment
VANCOUVER, BC – On October 28, 2021, GCT’s Deltaport Expansion – Berth Four Project (DP4) reached another milestone in the coordinated impact assessment process. The Detailed Project Description was accepted, and the Readiness Decision Report along with the Readiness Decision Order was issued recommending that the Project proceed to the next phase of an Environmental Assessment.
About the Impact Assessment Process
The Detailed Project Description was developed following the issuance of the Joint Summary of Issues by the Regulators. It incorporates input from consultation and engagement with provincial, territorial and Indigenous jurisdictions, Indigenous groups, the public, federal authorities, and other participants. It also describes how the input contributed to the changes to the Project.
As noted, the BC Environmental Assessment Office, BCEAO, issued its Readiness Decision Report and Readiness Decision Order which recommends that the Project proceed to an Environmental Assessment. The Impact Assessment Agency of Canada, IAAC, also issued a Notice of Impact Assessment Decision with Reasons which moves the Project to the next phase of the coordinated impact assessment.
About the Project
The GCT Deltaport Expansion – Berth Four Project is a sustainable, incremental, and privately-funded expansion of GCT’s existing terminal footprint to add a fourth berth, delivering required capacity while minimizing impact on our neighbours, environment, Indigenous fishing grounds, and our workforce. The DP4 Project will add up to 2M TEUs of new capacity, in line with the demand.
GCT has a proud history and a proven record of delivering economically, environmentally, and socially sustainable projects. Learn more about why DP4 is the better option for container capacity expansion that is in Canada’s best interest at www.betterdeltaport.ca
GCT is excited to achieve this milestone, advancing DP4 to the next phase of the project assessment and looks forward to ongoing engagement.
