CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF EARTH DAY – 100 YEARS OF COMMITMENT

GLOBAL CONTAINER TERMINALS CELEBRATES EARTH DAY

VANCOUVER, BC, CANADA – As part of its industry-leading Global Commitment, on this 50th annual Earth Day, Global Container Terminals (GCT) has much to celebrate. For over 100 years, GCT has been an innovator and leader in marine terminal operations. Over the past ten years, GCT has been increasingly recognized for its efforts to decouple growth from emissions by investing in technology, densifying existing footprints, and improving energy efficiency. Every new project at GCT considers best practices in environmental management, and many of GCT’s recent projects have been recognized for their excellence in sustainability.

“I am incredibly proud of the work of our team to embed sustainability into GCT’s values. In 2019, we were excited to activate Shore Power at GCT Deltaport, allowing vessels to plug into BC’s clean hydroelectric power grid, reducing diesel emissions. Through our Global Commitment program, we continue to pilot innovative emissions reduction strategies, collaborate with supply chain partners to find efficiencies, maintain voluntary certifications, and more,” said Doron Grosman, President and CEO of Global Container Terminals.

GCT is Green Marine certified, this rigorous, voluntary industry certification program sets high benchmarks for air, land, and water emissions.  GCT recently recertified and earned top marks in nearly every category. GCT Canada is also a Climate Smart Certified business and has successfully reduced absolute emissions by over 10% since joining in 2014.

Earth Day is an important reminder of our shared responsibilities to improve environmental performance throughout the supply chain. While proud of our achievements, we are excited to continue the journey and find more ways to embed sustainability throughout our business.
