The new automated truck gates are officially open.

Final testing of Global Terminal’s innovative, automated truck gate system has been completed on schedule and is running smoothly. The advanced system uses RFID and OCR technology to ensure trucker safety while increasing efficiency.

Global Terminal Reaches another Successful Milestone with Truck Gate Go-Live.

Global Terminal’s Expansion Project has reached another successful milestone with the launch of its truck in-gate and out-gate system. The new gate complex is the first in a series of technological innovations at the New Jersey container facility.

“The final testing of the in-gate and out-gate is complete and the system is running smoothly and efficiently.” said Rich Ceci, Vice President, Information Technology and Global Expansion Project Manager. “Our new gate system uses RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) and OCR (Optical Character Recognition) technology which ensures truckers remain safely inside their vehicles for inspection, security checks, and picking up/dropping off loads inside the terminal. Safety is a core value of Global Container Terminals and the terminal is redesigned to ensure a safe and efficient working environment for the trucking community.”

“Eighty percent of out-gate transactions are auto-completing and no other U.S. East Coast terminal has been able to achieve this level of out-gate automation.” according to Ceci.

Combined with future improvements in yard technology and the introduction of automated RMG (Rail Mounted Gantry) stacks, Global will implement a streamlined container receipt and delivery process that will greatly benefit truck, rail and vessel traffic at the site.  Global Terminal estimates that once the new integrated facility is fully on-line and tuned, truck visits will be safe, fast and efficient. This will be a significant benefit to truckers that access the facility every day.

These new systems will allow us to deliver world-class productivity for our customers, using the latest technology in port transport systems.  Utilizing state-of-the-art equipment and technology, all operations will be remotely monitored to ensure the highest standards in customer service and trucker safety.
